Summer is here, with blue skies, and all its fullness and beauty. Marvelling at the variety in leaf and flower forms, this year’s closing concert offers the chance to marvel at the styles of different composers.
Stanford: Songs of the Fleet
JS Bach: Motet, Der Geist Hilft
Debussy: Trois Chansons
Parry: Songs of Farewell
Vaughan Williams: 5 Mystical Songs
Laurens Macklon, baritone
Christopher Nickol, organ
Michael Bawtree, conductor
The concert starts with Stanford’s ‘Songs of the Fleet’ – the perfect way to set sail – and we are delighted to be joined by the baritone soloist, Laurens Macklon. These will be followed by Debussy’s elegant French ‘Trois Chansons’ about love, beauty, and the seasons. Parry offers us two ‘Farewell Songs’, after which Chris Nickol plays JS Bach on the organ. The choir then sings JS Bach’s Motet, ‘Der Geist Hilft’. The concert ends with Vaughan Williams’ ‘Five Mysical Songs’, for which we will again be joined by Laurens Macklon.
The concert starts at 3pm on Sunday 3rd June 2018, in Bearsden Cross Church, 59 Drymen Road, Bearsden, G61 2SU.
We hope you will enjoy this programme with its mix of music and words. Thank you for support over the year, and we wish you a good summer.
