SUMMARY:Pizzetti - Messa di Requiem
DESCRIPTION:Our autumn concert has a distinctly Italian flavour\, with a programme of sacred music from composers\, some of whom are better known for their operatic work. \nIldebrando Pizzetti\, an Italian composer little known outside Italy\, wrote his beautiful Messa di Requiem in 1922. It is steeped in the tradition of Gregorian chant\, woven into a modern web of sound. \nThe rest of the programme continues the Italian theme\, with three sacred pieces by Verdi: his Ave Maria and Pater Noster for mixed voices\, and his Laudi Alla Vergine Maria for female voices. While Verdi is best known for his operas\, he turned to writing sacred choral music later in life\, and these are three of his finest. \nOur final Italian piece\, Monteverdi’s Cantate Domino takes us back 200 years\, and brings us into the glorious sound world of St Mark’s in Venice in the 17th century. \nTickets available online from glasgowchamberchoir.ticketlight.co.uk and on the door.
